Like Twitter and Pinterest, Facebook is also making a major pushes to become more of an ecommerce hub for companies selling online.
Facebook is beginning to allow ecommerce companies to accept payments via both their desktop website and the network’s Messenger App. Companies will soon have the option to have their ads on the network open up a Messenger box when clicked. Customers will then be presented with copy from the ecommerce company and will have the option purchase directly through Messenger bots without needing to go to an external website.
For shoppers, Facebook already offers to save their payment information so that they can more easily make purchases. They will also be able to share products and bots with their friends.
Facebook reports 34,000 developers working on bots right now with this update expected to be broadly available by the end of this year.
