You may think that there’s no way people could spend any more time on their smartphones. But the latest Mobility Report from Ericsson suggests that North Americans will be burning through 4 times the amount of data on their phones in just 5 years.
The report, which focuses on the evolution of mobile technologies, analyzed global mobile traffic and found that North Americans are expected to have used the most mobile data by the end of 2017, 6.9GB per smartphone per month which is almost double that of the next most active region – Western Europe. More interestingly, Ericsson predicts that by 2022, each active smartphone in North America will be consuming 26GB of data per month.
Globally, Ericsson is expecting mobile data traffic to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 42%. For businesses, this means that consumers are going to be spending even more time on their mobile devices. With such huge year-on-year growth, establishing an effective mobile presence by optimizing for mobile and then targeting mobile users will allow you to benefit from that growth.
